Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to travel in real style. That style can be simple or extravagant, depending on your own tastes and budget. A wide range of vehicles are available for the occasion, so there is plenty of room for imagination, even within a tight budget.
Traditional Choices
To transport the bride and her father to the church, and later, the bride and groom from the church, the traditional choices for include the ever-popular -
- Vintage Rolls
- Rolls Royce
- Daimler
- Limousine
- Mercedes
- Saloon Car
Prices vary from the saloon to the rolls. You'll have to dig a little deeper into your pockets for the Vintage Rolls, but it has undeniable charm, and will provide your photographer with a wonderful background for your photos.
Range of Colours
Cars can be selected in a variety of colours, but white, silver and, quite often black, are by far the most popular. Just imagine yourself in all your splendour, in white dress and veil, emerging from the highly polished black Rolls or Limo! The contrast looks beautiful!
Value for Money
Wedding transport is competitive, and you'll find good value for money. The price usually includes -
- 1. Collecting the groom (if he lives locally) and bringing him to the church.
- 2. Doing the same for the bridesmaids.
- 3. Finally, collection of the bride and her father.
- 4. Taking the Bride and Bridegroom to the Reception.
NOTE: Some firms offer a discount for weekday weddings.
Streamers & Ribbons
When booking the wedding car, you can also look into car decorations. Streamers or ribbons, chosen to follow the colour scheme of your bouquets or bridesmaids' dresses, or just plain white, - are a simple but elegant alternative to elaborate car tops and other decorations, and can really be quite effective. Ask at the rental company if car decorations are included in the price, or if these are available as an extra.
Make sure that the company you are dealing with is registered and insured. Check the car of your choice ahead of time for cleanliness and make sure that it will be roomy enough, particularly for the bride who will be wearing a very full dress.
Transport of Delight
The traditional horse-and-carriage cannot be matched for sheer charm and beauty, and will give your wedding day a real fairy tale atmosphere. But be warned that it does cost more, it will take much longer to get where you are going, and it is unheated.
An open-top car for a summer wedding may seem romantic, but keep in mind that it might rain buckets out of the blue on the day. Even if the sun keeps shining, remember that you will have to proceed fairly slowly, as the wind can ruin an elaborate hair-style and loosen your veil.
Sharing responsibility
The cost for transportation is traditionally divided, with the groom responsible for providing transport for himself and his best man to the church, and for himself and his bride to the reception. The bride's parents are usually expected to pay for all other transport. This tradition is, of course, open to variation, depending upon individual situations.
Transportation arrangements for the wedding party, close relations and other guests is one of the duties of the best man, whose task it is to hire cars, order taxis, and to provide maps and timetables. Generally speaking, he must make sure that nobody is left behind. Just imagine your poor Granny pacing the floor, wondering if perhaps she got all dressed up on the wrong day!
People have arrived at their weddings in boats, balloons, planes and helicopters, just to mention a few deviations from tradition. However you choose to arrive, just make sure that you arrive on time, or the term `bridal blush' may take on a new meaning!
