County Roscommon / Co. Ros Comáin
Bordered on the east by the River Shannon, Roscommon is good farming country, the river going down to the town of Athlone. If the traveller is a sportsman this is just the place for him, with salmon and trout fishing and coarse angling. There is also swimming, water-skiing and board-sailing, and to have the best of both worlds visit Hodson Bay on the Shannon, three miles from Athlone. Shopping and restaurants are within a short distance of town - this is a wonderful location with a fine marina, an 18-hole golf course and a superb location for fishing, together with good shooting. Visitors will find a friendly atmosphere with many guest houses together with self-catering accommodation waiting to welcome them.
